Kyrenia Amateur Dramatics Society hit the stage on Thursday and Friday evening, showcasing two comedy plays to a virtually full house at the Kultur Merkezi theatre in Kyrenia, by the Wednesday marketplace. With just a few seats left empty, the growing popularity of KADS’ shows was apparent. From less than 30 people watching the performances three years ago to the 140 seats filled on Friday, the shows, which donate to KAR and SOS, are more popular than ever.
The actors whose ages range between 20 and 60, include local residents, members of the now defunct Lambousa Theatre group and even people who’d seen the productions and felt inspired to join the group.
Director, Lawrie Oxley, said “it’d be really good to see more young people coming forward to join us, as well as more Cypriots like Sirin”. Sirin Damdelen, a Cyprus Today columnist, who plays Val in ‘World Premier’, joined after being a member of the audience.
Founded in 1975, the Kyrenia Amateur Dramatics Society represents the largest organisation of its kind in the TRNC, having produced 16 shows in the last 5 years. ‘Costa Del Packet’ and ‘World Premiere’ will be their last show of the season and the final show takes place tonight. A small number of tickets remain available on the door for 15TL. (or Call Beverley on 0533 832 8121 to reserve a ticket)
The group will return next year in Spring with a number of new productions and their BRT radio plays can be heard online at www.visionmatters.co.uk/kads.html
