The Turkish Cypriot journalists’ union, headed by its chairman Sami Ozuslu, paid a visit to ‘Afrika’ newspaper’s editor-in chief Sener Levent in order to express their support to him.
According to Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Havadis’, Levent was censored by Bayrak television for statements he made to BRT in a televised programme in which he appeared.
At the meeting, Ozuslu stated that Levent had become a victim of a situation which reminded him the “direct censorship” which was implemented in medieval times. Ozuslu stated that the union is worried by the fact that recent developments in Turkey will be reflected in the country and that press freedom will be limited also in the TRNC, were proven right.
“We have met with all the relevant parties and we will not remain silent. This situation is unacceptable”, Ozuslu stated.
Meanwhile, Levent thanked the delegation for its support.
