Detention warrants have been issued by Istanbul prosecutors for 103 academic staff at Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul, 73 have been detained.
They are alleged to have links to Fethullah Gülen, the self-exiled cleric who resides in the US. Gülen is suspected of having orchestrated the failed July 15 coup attempt in Turkey.
Police raided the homes of the 103 academics in order to detain them. Those who were detained were taken to a police station following health checks at a hospital.
Reportedly, some of the detainees were accused on charges that they were using the ByLock application, a messaging app that is said to have been used by the group for secret communications.
