The directors of KIBTEK have been pushing for electricity price increases of between 10 and 20%, at the same time proposing that workers in the industry have their salaries reduced.
Caglayan Cesurer, head of the electricity workers union ELSEN has responded by saying that the union is against these increases.
In a press statement issued yesterday, he says that the directors are looking at the wrong issues. The big issue is the non-payment of electricity bills by the main government departments and he asks “will KIBTEK continue providing free electricity?”
By contrast, KIBTEK chairman Erkan Okandan appeared on television yesterday saying that an electricity price increase of around 20%, was an absolute necessity.
