Burial service employees for Nicosia Council walked out a few days ago as part of the BES unions protest. Since then the District Governor, Kemal Dana, claimed that there would be no interruption to burial services. He said that this function would be taken over by the Governor’s office and also funded by it.
However it has today emerged that this claim could not be fulfilled because no personnel could be hired to do the job.
BES union leader, Savas Bozat, confirmed that burial services had been suspended and that the Governor’s office had not been able to provide an alternative.
