Former President Mehmet Ali Talat has criticised recent statements made by a member of the Greek Cypriot negotiating team.
Speaking on ADA TV, Talat said that remarks on the property issue made by Erato Markoullis should not be made in public.
Markoullis had said that those who owned property before 1974 should be given land. In that case, why sit at the negotiating table, Talat asked?
He noted that the Turkish Cypriots had made no statements about the talks, other than commenting on the issue of guarantees.
He went on to accuse the Greek Cypriots of trying to get the upper hand, by challenging the Turkish Cypriots not to confront them on the issue.
This was contrary to the spirit of the talks, he said, adding that the Greek Cypriot stance on guarantees and property was wrong.
