Waste water draining into a river 600 metres from the Cypfruvex factory which produces orange juice, has created an environmental disaster, Kibris Gazetesi reports.
Since 2012, a pipe from the facility, on the main Guzelyurt-Kalkanlı has been draining acidic waste water and orange pulp into the river nearby. The river has been turned into a swamp, plant life has been killed off and is a local eyesore. In addition, the area smells and attracts thousands of flies, the report says.
The Turkish Cypriot daily stresses that no one has tackled this environmental disaster created by the state-run facility.
