Former PM Ozgurgun to Face Financial Investigation

Legal proceedings will be taken against former Prime Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun, the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has said.

In September, this year, a specially formed parliamentary committee convened for eight hours to decide whether or not to lift Mr. Ozgurgun’s immunity.

Following the decision, the former prime minister’s assets have been frozen and he may not make any transaction regarding his immovable property.

Mr. Ozgurgun was said to have 21 bank accounts containing a total of 2,773,800 TL, 12 accounts containing a total of 242,000 Euro, six accounts containing a total of £325,800 and four further account containing a total of $258,525.

The process to lift his immunity took 18 months with a final decision made last month.

Mr. Ozgurgun has not attended parliament since 1 October in reaction to parliament’s decision to lift his immunity.

He is facing an investigation as to how he acquired his assets and for not declaring his assets when prime minister.
