The Forest Department has reminded all citizens of the possibility of outbreaks of fire given the high temperatures and increasing wind speeds.
It is not permitted to have bonfires between May 1 and October 31 for any reason.
There have been fires in Alayköy, Bağlıköy, Tashkent, Çatalköy and Gönyeli dam regions within the space of two days. The fire brigade, civil defence and related municipality facilities had been mobilised under the direction of the Forestry Department.
The Forestry department also noted that barbecues should only be lit in the designated picnic areas and care should be taken to extinguish them before leaving. Picnickers are also reminded to dispose of any rubbish in the bins provided. Additionally, smokers are reminded not to throw lighted cigarette ends onto the ground or out of cars when travelling.
If anyone who spots a fire is asked to telephone ‘Alo 177’ Forest Department or ‘Alo 199’ Fire Department. Calls to those numbers are free of charge. Early intervention in fire outbreaks is essential, the department said.
