A festival was held in Akıncılar village on Sunday. The village is celebrating direct access with its new road to Ercan. For the past 40 years villagers have been obliged to access the village via a military camp, which has now been bypassed.
Live music and dance performances were attracting great interest at the event where local produce was on sale.
So many people took the opportunity on a sunny Sunday to flock to Akıncılar, there was a traffic jam.
President Akıncı said that it was much easier now to get to the village with the new road. “Our goal is to permanently create an island where we can live freely as free people, where we can travel freely in the land up to the remotest place in every part of Cyprus,” he said.
