Greek Cypriots cannot help but notice the huge flags painted on the south side of the Besparmak mountains.
The MEP for the Greek Cypriot DIKO party, Antigoni Papadopoulou has been agitating in the EU parliament for some time, for their removal.
However she was yesterday, told that this was not a significant matter.
Mrs Papadopoulou had been trying to get EU action by saying that the flags represented a significant health and environmental impact. However Stefan Fule, the EU enlargement commissioner said that he disagreed and that this issue should be settled within the wider scope of a Cyprus solution.
