TRNC Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertugruloglu, who is in New York, attended the foundation-laying ceremony of the Turkish House as guest of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu yesterday.
The Turkish House, which is being rebuilt, is located opposite the UN Headquarters in New York. The old building, which had long been used by Turkey as a building for consular affairs and permanent representation, was demolished to construct a new 32 storey building.
According to a press release by the TRNC Foreign Ministery during the ceremony Ertugruloglu briefly met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He also had the opportunity to meet with the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister in Charge of Coordination of Cyprus Affairs Recep Akdag.
Meanwhile, Ertugruloglu, in a breakfast meeting yesterday with Cavusoglu, evaluated the latest developments on the Cyprus issue.
According to the Foreign Ministry’s social media account, Ertugruloglu and Cavusoglu exchanged views on the new period in Cyprus following the end of the 50-year negotiations process as well as on domestic issues in the TRNC.
The general director of the TRNC Foreign Ministry Kemal Koprulu, the TRNC representative in New York Mehmet Dana, the 2nd secretary of the foreign ministry Cagri Kalfaoglu and the 2nd secretary of the TRNC representation office in New York Yasa Yesilada, accompanied Ertugruloglu during the meeting.
