An agreement transferring the operating rights for Ercan airport to a private consortium was formally signed yesterday.
The tender was awarded to Tas Yapi (70%), Terminal Yapi (20%) and Kaner (10%). Kaner is a TRNC business, while the first two companies are major Turkish construction companies experienced in such projects in Turkey as well as overseas.
Attending the ceremony were the Minister of Finance, Ersin Tatar, Energy Minister, Suat Atun, Public Works minister Ersen Saner, the Prime Minister, Irsen kucuk, as well as Tas Yapi owner, Emrullah Turanli.
Plans are in place to build a new terminal, shops, hotel and an underground car park, with construction work likely to commence in January 2013.
