A total of eight people were rescued from drowning at North Cyprus beaches on Sunday.
Beaches at in Famagusta and Alsancak were crowded. On Sunday afternoon five people went into the sea ignoring warnings from life guards. In the early evening two other young people entered the sea and drifted 500 metres away from the shore but were rescued by lifeguards.
At Escape beach, three youngsters were rescued after ignoring warnings and were taken to hospital to recover.
Beachgoers are advised to heed the lifeguards’ warnings if they say it is unsafe to go into the sea. Eight near drowning incidents in one day is too high a number, experts say.
