Presidential spokesman, Osman Ertug, last night walked out of the dinner organised by Alexander Downer, the UN Special Advisor for Cyprus. He did this to protest against the non invitation of the Turkish Ambassador.
Downer had intended for the dinner at Chateau Restaurant at Ledra Palace to be an occasion to meet the leaders of both sides and other interested parties.
However neither President Dervis Eroglu or Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias turned up. When questioned about this, UN officials said they could not explain the absences.
Representatives of many countries attended, including the EU ambassadors posted to Cyprus.
However, when it was noted that the Turkish Ambassador had not been invited, Mr Ertug walked out in protest.
