UN reviews Cyprus peace process

It has been announced that Alexander Downer, that the UN envoy for Cyprus will be visiting the parties
involved in negotiations during the second half of November. His tour of the region will include
Nicosia, Athens, Ankara Brussels and London.

In a press statement in New York, Mr Downer said that he felt that some progress had been made by
the technical committees but not enough and that a multi-party conference is not yet envisaged.  Downer joined a number of other UN officials in New York for further meetings this week to review the current status of Cyprus peace negotiations and discuss future options.  The UN is currently preparing a document detailing the agreements and challenges over the last four years, as a basis for further negotiations after South Cyprus’ presidential elections in February 2013.
