Cypriots have the option to decide whether they are stronger together or divided, UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide has said. This option has to be decided as soon as possible, he said.
Eide met with Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots who meet regularly in the Buyuk Han on Saturdays.
If the public believed in a solution in Cyprus, he felt concerned that it was time to talk in favour of it because he was worried that the situation was not going as well as it had a few months ago.
Speaking of a group of Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot regulars whom he met in the Buyuk Han, Eide said that it was a pleasant way for people to come here to spend Saturday. This group has come together since the opening of border, and that he also frequently visited.
Eide also said that “you can be sure that these people will not leave the table before they reach consensus on doing this”.
Eide told Greek News Agency (KIPE) that they did not have unlimited time and stated that the people should think about what they want and that this decision should be taken at the most appropriate time.
