Chairman of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhurman, has said that his party has prepared a development plan for the Karpaz region which focuses on agriculture, alternative tourism and education. Erhurman met yesterday with journalists, columnists, newspapers editors and TV stations and briefed them on the CTP’s democratisation package and economic and social development programme.
Erhurman noted that Karpaz was deemed to be a priority area in their development plan and that their target is to create employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people. He said that they intend to prepare a construction plan within two years by benefiting from the services of the private sector and universities.
Referring to the statement made by Prime Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun, chairman of the National Unity Party (UBP) that the UBP will tear out and throw away the decree for Karpaz, Erhurman argued that the UBP’s stance will destroy the area.
Replying to a question, Erhurman noted that the CTP will not establish a coalition government with the UBP and added that except for this statement, they had said nothing else on this issue. He argued that his party has prepared plans and programmes for the administration of the country for the next 5, 10 and 15 years and will establish a coalition with those who are of the same mind as theirs after discussing the issues. He said that as soon as he becomes prime minister, the council of ministers will appoint special investigators for some cases and therefore establishing a coalition with the UBP is not possible.
Erhurman said also that the CTP will abolish the provision which gives the council of ministers the right to compulsorily grant citizenship to some persons and determine detailed criteria for granting citizenship to those who contribute to the country in various sectors. He also said that they will apply strict controls on the issue of granting work permit to foreign workers.
