Complaints to International Community Over Stray Missile Event

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kudret Ozersay held a telephone conversation with Turkey’s National Defence Minister, Hulusi Akar regarding the incident of the stray Syrian missile which exploded over North Cyprus.

In a statement on his social media account, Ozersay said that Turkey would very soon proceed with necessary suggestions to several neighbouring countries over the issue of the remains of an exploded missile that fell on Tashkent in the foothills of the Besparmak mountain range. No one was injured but a number of residents were evacuated. Testing of the debris showed that there was no danger of any toxic substances.

It is reported that the stray missile, not aimed at the island, automatically exploded in mid-air, showering the Tashkent region with chunks of metal.

At the same time, we also express our discomfort over this issue and will attempt to convey our discomfort at an international level”, Ozersay said.
