The goal of the new government is to implement radical reform in every sector, leader of the Social Democratic Party (TDP) Cemal Özyiğit and member of the four-party coalition has said.
“We are going to solve all of society’s daily and chronic problems together”, he said.
The TDP leader told BRT that the new coalition was also intent on tackling corruption and allegations of irregularities.
He also said that there was a need to introduce changes to the system of public advisors and to make use of the current ones.
“We keep on appointing new advisors despite the fact that some of these advisors are from the same party. We need to make use of the ones who are currently benched but are still on the state payroll. We need to change the law so that we don’t create a new army of advisors”, he added.
Özyiğit also said that his party will be assigned the Ministry of National Education and Culture and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
Commenting on the Cyprus Problem, he admitted that all four parties in the coalition had different positions or views on how to solve it.
However, he pointed out that President Mustafa Akıncı was responsible for leading the negotiations and that the coalition partners would do all they could to contribute to the process if necessary.
Özyiğit also said that the first act of the government will be to pass the 2018 state budget.
Regarding the subject of privatisation, the TDP leader said they did not want to privatise state institutions providing they are properly managed.
“We shall be insisting that the right appointments are made”, he added.
