Nicosia District Governor Kemal Deniz has been asked to intervene in a local dispute that has been running for 18 months now.
It started when a resident in the Gonyeli dam region mounted two loudspeakers onto the roof of his house. From there he insists in loudly broadcasting the calls to prayer during the day.
Neighbours have complained that their sleep is interrupted, school lessons are harder to conduct and that despite petitions and complaints, no action has been taken.
The local council has done nothing, nor the Religious Affairs Ministry; so now Governor Deniz has been petitioned.
He has responded that he will conduct a quick appraisal of the situation and that “soon the problem will be resolved”.
