Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRTK) is celebrating the 54th anniversary of its establishment and every year through its responsibilities as a public broadcaster is improving itself and is continuing to be the voice of the people.
On the 25th of December 1963 Radio Bayrak was established.
Bayrak, Bayrak, Bayrak… these were the three words with which Radio Bayrak had gone on air exactly 54 years ago today.
Currently Bayrak Radio Television Corporation is continuing to serve the people with two television channels and six radio stations.
Issuing a message marking the day, the General Director of the BRTK Meryem Özkurt said 25 December, 1963 was a date for which the Turkish Cypriot people are justly proud.
“During those dark and difficult days a handful of heroic people took to the road by saying, ‘Bayrak! Bayrak! Bayrak!’ not only did they become the voice of the Turkish Cypriots but also became a new breath, created a new hope and excitement for the people as they had established a radio” Özkurt said and stressed that Bayrak Radio, which was established as a result of great determination, and in a short period of time a television channel had also been created and had become an important communication source for Cyprus.
“As Bayrak Radio Television Corporation and with our quality and strong content we are working with discipline towards promoting the TRNC and making its voice heard abroad” the BRT Director said and pointed out that the BRTK was fulfilling its public broadcasting responsibility by adopting the principles of rightness and objectivity”, she said.
