Delegates, some 1,472 in number will be asked to vote either for Prime Minister and leader of UBP Irsen Kucuk or the former Health Minister Ahmet Kasif. The votes will be for party leader and future Prime Minister. They will also be asked to choose an assembly of 50 party members.
It is suggested in recent polls that Mr Kucuk leads but only by a small majority.
This current campaign for the leadership has been considered the most bitter in the history of the TRNC. The Turkish EU Affairs Minister Egemen Bagis has spoken of the ruling party – AK’s full support of Mr. Kucuk. Meanwhile the president of the TRNC is supporting Mr Kasif.
