President Mustafa Akinci will meet with the UN Secretary-General’s envoy to Cyprus, Jane Holl Lute on Monday afternoon.
Lute has been assigned by UNSG Guterres to sound out all parties to the Cyprus negotiations, to see if there is sufficient interest and will to restart the talks.
Lute will also be received by President Nicos Anastasiades. Citing information obtained by the Spokesman of UN Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) Aleem Siddique,Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Yeni Duzen’ reports that Lute has no other programmed meetings during her stay on the island. After her meetings in Cyprus, Lute will visit Ankara, Athens and Greece and she is expected to brief the UNSG regarding the result of her contacts, notes the paper.
Meanwhile, Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Halkin Sesi’ writes that President Akinci will hold five separate meetings today and tomorrow with the chairmen or representatives of all Turkish Cypriot political parties represented in the assembly in order to gather their opinions on the Cyprus problem prior, to Lute’s visit to the island.
