President Mustafa Akinci’s spokesman Baris Burcu spoke to BRT regarding the opening of the Derinya and Aplic crossing points. He said that President Akinci and the presidency had used all means available to them to open the two crossing points.
Recalling that three and a half years ago a political decision had been taken to open the crossing points, Burcu expressed the hope that the two new border crossing points will benefit all.
Noting that although three and a half years is not a short time, Burcu said that everyone needed to work in harmony in order for the crossing points to open, there were tasks that both Turkish Cypriots, the Greek Cypriots and the UN needed to complete first.
“Some problems were experienced due to the former government”, said Burcu and added that the opening of these two particular crossing points was a persistent topic for the president.
Burcu thanked everyone who worked towards the opening of the crossing points and expressed the hope that the day will come when a solution to the Cyprus problem will be found where crossing points will no longer be needed.
