President Mustafa Akıncı held inspections at Derinya where work to open a new crossing point is continuing.
Earlier this month the President had paid a similar visit to the Aplıç crossing point.
Speaking during Friday’s visit, the President promised to fulfill his responsibilities for the opening of the Aplıç and Derinya crossing points which have been affected by delays.
He said that there were no budgetary or financing problems for the opening of the crossing points.
Akıncı also expressed his view that there would be no objections from either side for the two crossing points to open a few weeks apart but added that it would be undesirable to see the Greek Cypriot side not taking any steps to complete the 3km stretch of road necessary for the opening of the Lefke-Aplıç crossing point.
