President Mustafa Akinci met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at UN headquarters in New York to exchange views on the possibility of restarting the Cyprus negotiations.
“The old negotiation process is now closed. It is not possible to achieve a different result by repeating the same things”, the president said.
“Therefore, it is clear that the Greek Cypriots, who insist on open-ended negotiations, insist on the non-solution”, Akinci added.
Following the meeting the UN issued a statement which said: “The Secretary-General and Mr. Akıncı exchanged views regarding the prospects for renewed talks on the Cyprus issue since the closure of the Conference on Cyprus in July 2017.”
