President Mustafa Akinci, left the island this morning to fly to New York.
In his statement at Ercan Airport, Akinci said that in his meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and President Nicos Anastasiades, the main target was to pave the way for the final stage of the Cyprus negotiations.
He said that he was going to New York in good faith, with a constructive attitude with the aim of shaping the future of Cyprus.
The president noted that no one should expect a miracle and that the tripartite meeting did not constitute the last phase of the talks.
Akinci was accompanied by his wife Meral, negotiator Ozdil Nami, spokesman Baris Burcu, EU Special Advisor Erhan Erçin, head of the Negotiating Committee Cenk Gürçağ and Secretary Sertaç Güven. The president is expected to return on 29th September.
