A greater than usual number of traffic police have been out on the roads during the lead up to the Bayram weekend holiday.
During the week October 15 to 21st, there were 518 offences committed. 109 of which were related to driving above the 62mph speed limit.
51 were for driving while using a mobile phone, 27 for driving above the legal alcohol limit and a further 12 drivers were fined for not having a valid driving licence. 8 people were seriously wounded in traffic accidents, however no fatalities have been reported.
Nicosia has the highest accident rate, followed by Famagusta and Kyrenia.
