Correspondent for Greek Cypriot daily ‘Politis’, who worked at Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Yeni Duzen’ for one week on the Media Exchange Programme, shared his impressions of Derinya, the new crossing point in Famagusta.
All arrangements have been made in the south for the new checkpoint, and work on the new road in the north has been completed. Now the tender for the last 300 metres will be finalised on 11 December. When this part of the road is finished, it will be possible to open Derinya crossing.
Kakouris notes that the “ghost city” of Varosha/Maras will be much more visible to passersby. ‘Politis’ also reported that the Derinya crossing, for political reasons, was to be opened along with the Lefke-Aplic crossing point.
