In a bid to facilitate unification with the South by developing the TRNC economy, The EU Commission has granted 27.2 million Euros of financial aid for the North.
Stefan Fule, EU Commissioner Responsible for Enlargement, said, “This new fund reflects the strong commitment of the EU for the economic integration of the Turkish Cypriot Community. We continue to support future reunification of the island through dialogue and mutual prosperity”.
The new fund will be allotted to projects involving environmental preservation, improving road safety, supporting civil society and protection of cultural heritage.
The EU thus far has provided a total of 320 million Euros in financial aid to the TRNC since 2006.
