UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Cyprus Espen Barth Eide, has said that the three-party-meeting held in Davos was really important and had drawn a lot of attention. Referring to the meeting held between President Akinci, UNSG Ban Ki-moon and President Anastasiades, he said:
“The meeting was the first of its kind. And the fact that it took place in front of the whole world, is very important”, he stated.
He added that the interest shown at Davos would be very beneficial for the parties involved in Cyprus. He also stated that it was a good opportunity for the economic dimension of the problem’s solution to be discussed at the Davos meeting.
Finally, Eide stated that the solution of the Cyprus problem is extremely important for both sides in Cyprus. The two leaders sent the message from Davos that “2016 will be solution year for Cyprus”.
