Widespread outcry over government corruption

Following reports on government plans to bailout a building company by repaying its bank debts and taking over a hotel building, there has been widespread criticism of this manoeuvre.

Head of the Hotel Owners Association, Mehmet Dolmaci, pointed out that there were 15 similar cases where the owners were left to go bankrupt. He questions why these two partners were selected for saving with government money.

The Celebrity Hotel in Lapta, one of the oldest hotels in the TRNC, was closed because of debts of US$ 800,000 to the Development bank. Its owner, Aziz Kent asks why there is such favouritism. Mr Kent says that as soon as he is rid of his bank debt he will leave the country.
