Turkey could undermine restart of Cyprus peace talks: Photiou

The Greek Cypriot Minister of Defence, Photis Photiou has said that the South will continue gas exploration in its EEZ, despite provocations from Turkey. “We will not relinquish sovereignty rights and this must be made clear”, he added.

Asked if Turkey had launched threats against South Cyprus following Friday’s official announcement regarding negotiations for drilling licences in blocs 5 and 6, between the South and EMI – KOGAS, he claimed that it was one of Ankara’s tactics to continuously issue threats.

The Minister said he wondered how the peace talks could begin once more, when Turkey continues to question South Cyprus’ sovereignty by making threats.
