Presidents agree that meeting was constructive

Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu, speaking after his meeting with Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades has said that had have they decided to proceed with result-oriented negotiations, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports.

Eroğlu stated that the important headings are to be debated and discussed during the next phase and that within mutual “Give and Take” and “Win-Win” ideologies, they will be endeavouring to progress to a referendum. Eroğlu was speaking to press after returning to the presidential palace.

As a result, as was expressed in the joint statement, they have come to a decision to proceed to “constructive and result-oriented” negotiations. Eroğlu noted that UNSG’s Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide will begin with a shuttle diplomacy meeting, which will focus on how to manage and discuss the main headings.

Eroğlu noted that they have expressed their opinions and thoughts regarding this topic, and that these important headings will be dealt with at the meetings Eide will hold with both sides.

For his part, according to PIK radio, Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades said that the meeting had been “constructive”.

Anastasiades spoke to press at the presidential palace where he said that the meeting was constructive and added “We have to engage in a dialogue in order to get over the current state of affairs which is unacceptable. Now I want to see what will be Mr Eroğlu’s attitude at the negotiation table.”

Asked if he felt optimistic about Eroğlu’s attitude Anastasiades said “What I said so far is enough. I don’t want to make any statement which might be perceived as a ‘blame game’.
