Further price hike in electricity likely

4 February 2017

KIB-TEK’s General Director Gurcan Erdogan, has said that he will be asking the government for an increase of six kurush across all electricity tariffs.

The head of the electricity authority told ‘Kibris’ that the raise was because of the increased dollar rate.

Erdogan said that the “cost of the fuel had gone up from 39 kurush to 45 kurush”. He mentioned that the prices of electricity in Turkey have been stabilised in Turkish lira and added that the biggest problem in the TRNC is the fact that the company is using fuel oil to power the station.

The price of this fuel is constantly increasing”, he noted adding that fuel oil contributes to 60% of the cost of electricity in the north.
