Cyprob talks could conclude at year’s end: Gumrukcu

4 October 2013

Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Levent Gumrukcu, speaking at a press conference said that Turkey wanted to see the re-launch of the Cyprus talks and wished for the process to be concluded in a determined and effective manner.

“Turkey has always stated that the two guarantor states must also contribute to the negotiations process,” said Gumrukcu adding that Turkey has always supported a firm stand on this issue.

“After a meeting held with Greece, a decision was taken for the Turkish and Greek Cypriot representatives to pay visits to Ankara and Athens. This is a new development,” said the spokesman.

“We believe that this method of meetings will contribute to the solution process” said Gumrukcu and added that although the date of the visits of the special representatives had not been decided, it is expected that the meetings will be held simultaneously.

“If the necessary political will is put forward after the talks have been realized then there is no reason why the talks cannot be concluded by the end of the year” said Gumrukcu.
