Community leaders to meet again this evening

20 April 2017

President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades will meet in the UN buffer zone at 6.30 pm today.

The negotiations, which broke off after the Greek Cypriot parliament’s vote to commemorate the 1950 Enosis Plebiscite in secondary schools, resumed on April 11th, after the Greek Cypriot side amended the decision in parliament.

The leaders worked on the negotiations programme at the first meeting they held after the two-month hiatus.

They plan to hold four meetings and will meet again on May 2nd, 11th and 17th, following today’s meeting.

Seeing some of the commentators here, It is nice to know who does not want any type of settlement. Now I know why their comments in other newspapers are so rude, ignorant, arrogant and bigoted.

    • turkishcypriot

Wrong. We are after two state solution.

      • MountainMan

Is that not what most people want? As long as they are both independent of outside influences.

        • turkishcypriot

When are they going to give up? These two must be living in another universe. This is the most fake politics of the century.

This is like a chess game; nobody wants to be blamed for dropping the “talks”.

      • turkishcypriot

Our fate depends on Akinci’s actions. Lets hope he is not playing a chess game.

        • Qovaq

He’s not playing games. He’s trying to extricate himself without getting the flak

          • turkishcypriot
