Turkish troops out: Chrysostomos

5 August 2013

The Greek Cypriots have agreed to restart negotiations with the TRNC on resolving the Cyprus problem. Talks will start in October but politicians from the South are deeply divided on their approach and expected outcome.

Yesterday Archbishop Chrysostomos spoke out for the right wing of the political spectrum.

He said that while Turkey insisted on being a guarantor power, Turkish citizens were occupying Greek Cypriot lands and ”Turkish soldiers dirtying our national lands” then there could be no solution to the Cyprus problem.

The Archbishop made this speech at the 37th anniversary of the death of Archbishop Makarios.

He continued that Cyprus should be a single state and be recognised as a single entity. Chrysostomos then called on the Greek Cypriot politicians preparing negotiations to give his message to the EU and the UN.
