Akdeniz beach invaded by jeeps

16 October 2012

On Sunday sunbathers were terrorised by joyriders racing jeeps around the dunes at Akdeniz.

The beach is a protected area for turtles. Jeeps trampling turtle nesting sites infuriated onlookers and a beach cafe owner had words with the young drivers.
The Department for Environmental Protection was called and officials visited the site. However, they made no comment about the event.

Robin Snape of TRNC marine turtle project stated that luckily turtle nests would be empty at this time of year. But in any case, vehicles should not be driven onto the beach.
